My husband takes Tramadol for pain. It has caused him to be depressed. He is now addicted to the drug can't function without it, and he is always angry or agitated at everything around him. He can't keep food down and can't sleep. He has tried to stop taking it but is now a down hill depressed state.

I am taking suboxone to get off tramadol after 7yrs I was depressed, a mess and up to 20 tablets a day, the suboxone has helped me feel normal and get off the tramadol! Getting off of it alone after being on it for so long is very very dangerous!

Tramadol is very addicting. I was prescribed for a cyst in my testicle and when I had it surgically removed I could not stop. I started buying 100 100mg Caps and I'm up to 25 or so a day which is 50 50mg.. I was surprised at how I can even survive that. This is a dangerous drug for sure !!! It gets you out of nowhere. Once I became addicted I take them just to be normal.

Tramadol - highly addictive, gives you a false sense of happiness and can make your life hell. I am currently in the middle of getting of tramadol as I can not go a day without it, after been suscribed for a bad back 2 years ago. at first it made me feel as though i had a new meaning of life, like i could achieve anything and made me feel so happy i felt as long as i had the tramadol i could get on with my day. I was then up to 11 a day from 6-8 a day because the effects starting wearing of and i needed to take more. i then became ill and realised with tests i had more enzymes on my liver than normal, not to serious but can be if i keep taking the tablets. i have also developed stomach ulcers from taking tramadol this gave me a wake up call and i realised i had to come of the tablets soon. the only problem was i couldn't, i experienced hallucinations, flu like symptoms were i would roll around in my bed and cry in pain, i felt worthless, i had no energy i couldn't even bear to get out of bed and wash myself, eat, or socialize, the list goes on. i am now on 4 tablets a day with help from a drug specialist and a counsellor. i go to the chemist once a week to pick up my 28 tablets and its really hard not to take more than 4 when they are there, several times i have took more and have been left short until my next script and have experienced the upper symptoms. my life is alot different prior to the tramadol, i dont work now i dont have much of a social life and the tension between me and my partner is unbearable because i am severly depressed because of this. i know tramadol will effect different people differently but i know tramadol is a highly addictive drug through my own experiences and others. ur husband need professional help he needs to tell his doctor he is addictive to this. my relationship is nearly ruined over this drug dont let it be to late for u and ur husband

Tramadol is a synthetic opiate. It is considered non narcotic but works on the same receptors a releases serotonin.
I know personally that you WILL grow dependent with long term use and the withdrawls from it are the SAME as withdrawal from any opiate medication such as Vicodin lortab norco etc.

It has a longer half life and is less likely to be abused which is why docs are a bit more free with it. Don't be fooled!

Neurontin is Gabapentin, this was originally approved as a med to help prevent Epileptic seizures, however it has been found to help some people with certain types of never pain such as post-herpetic neuralgia and similar conditions.

As to the Tramadol, if he has been on a high dose for a long time, it can do this, almost any drug can if you have been on a high dosage for a long time and try to stop without tapering off.

Well unfortunately our bodies can become dependent upon anything that we take regularly for a long period of time, anything from your morning orange juice to a cup of milk with dinner. There is a big difference between addiction and dependence though. To be addicted he would have to be abusing the drug, taking it more than prescribed and going to extreme measures to get more.

Now the problem with dependence is that while the withdrawals are not as severe as addiction, you do suffer some and that is apparently what he is going through.

This is a non-narcotic med, but his body is still used to having it and if he stops taking it abruptly, then he will suffer problems.

Either you or your husband need to speak to his doctor about this problem, they can support or treat the other conditions he is suffering from both while using it and help him to taper off of it if he needs to stop taking it altogether.
