I am taking Clonidine for an off label use to treat Bruxism(teeth clenching at night). Currently 0.2mg just at night ,but considering trying 0.3mg. My questions are 1) I've heard some people develop a tolerance to Clonidine after taking it for a longtime(so it becomes ineffective and the dose must be increased or treatment stopped). How long can I take before I should take a break ,so I don;t develop this tolerance? 2) If I take 0.3mg and then want to stop taking it , if i reduce my dose by 0.05(half a tablet) every 3-4 days should that avoid rebound hypertension ? My doctor said withdrawal and tolerance are not problems at all so i can stop cold when i want, but don;t think it is a drug she has experience prescribing (only prescribed it as I suggested trying it ,from studies I had ...

I need to know how long clonidine stays in your urine? I am on a methadone clinic and they just started taking levels of clonidine in our urine, if you are not prescribed, you get immediate discharge, no detox. Please help. ## I couldn't locate a definitive source for this answer, however a few references noted that Clonidine stays in your system for roughly 2-3 days for a urine test. I would personally suggest giving yourself about close to a week though if you've been using it for a while; depending on your metabolism, diet, weight, etc. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables while staying hydrated throughout the day will significantly help your body detox quicker (from both clonidine and methadone). Besides getting plenty of rest each night I'd also recommend getting at l...

Has anyone used Respridol for Tourette's Syndrome? My son is almost 9, and may also have ADD. He is not really hyper, and behaves well at school. He was just started on Clonidine, but it hasn't been long enough to tell anything. The doc also mentioned Respridol, so I was just wondering. He also has moderate asthma, under control with Flovent. Thanks! ## Risperdal contains Risperidone, it is a potent atypical antipsychotic, which is approved to treat Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and Schizoaffective disorder. Most other uses are off-label and I have no information on it being used for Tourettes. Have you asked the doctor about it? You can learn more about the medication here: ## I just started using Flovent and was advised to rinse my mouth and gargle after using to avoid getti...

Can you drink a couple of beers before you take your clonidine 0.2 mg that night or not take the pill that night ## Hello, Bullet! How are you? It would be best not to skip doses of your medication, without your doctor's approval. Drinking alcohol, while taking it may increase the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual. It may make each drink affect you as if you'd had 2 and so on. If your doctor approves of your imbibing, then you should make sure that you will not be driving or operating any dangerous machinery. Is there anything else I can help with? ## When I drink it raises my blood pressure what should I do if I have already taken my clodine Y ## Hello, ME, Just mess with your neighbors spouse. I was perscribed clonodine for tachycardia but have also been on suboxone for 6 years..which I would love to get off of. After research I see this drug also helps with the withdrawals.. can I use the clonodine to help withdraw from suboxone? Will I withdraw from the clonidine also if I stop taking it? Is it just another drug that I'll be physically addicted to? ## It's really hard to say, since we are all different, so much of it depends on you and your metabolism. But yes, Clonidine has been known to help with withdrawal symptoms according to FDA reports, and yes, you may experience some withdrawal symptoms from it, if you stop it abruptly, however, it depends on how much you were taking and how long you were taking it. What dosage are you taking? ## I just started taking the c...

Been on this med for quite a while (3+ yrs) for physical symptoms of anxiety. Since day one it still hits me like a ton of bricks and causes severe drowsiness about an hour after taking it. When taken at bedtime it will put me out no problem. BUT, after 3-4 hours, I wake up and have trouble sleeping for the rest of the night. Wondering if anyone else has this similar problem with waking up after a few hours of sleep. It's guaranteed to K.O. me but then wake me right back up after a little while. ## Although Clonidine's side effects do not list insomnia as a possible side effect, there are certainly more than a handful of adverse reactions that could inevitably cause insomnia. This drug may cause lightheadedness, dry mouth, tiredness, weakness, headache, nervousness, decreased se...

I was prescribed .2mg of Clonidine twice a day to prevent withdrawl while tapering off of 100mcg/hr Fentanyl. I was not informed by my doc that I needed to taper off the Clonodine as well. Stopped taking when took last dose in bottle, & have been having horrible withdrawls from the Clonodine. Went to ER, & doc prescribed .1mg twice daily. Took first two doses & still very shaky, having horrible chills, & unable to sleep. How long will it take for this to calm down? ## Hello, Michelle! How long were you on the Clonidine? I have to wonder if these withdrawal symptoms aren't more due to withdrawing from the Fentanyl, rather than the Clonidine. Short term use of Clonidine shouldn't cause major withdrawal symptoms and the ones you've described are more typical of ...

Have been using gabapintin 1200mg-2000mg aday for oxcycodone withdrawals its helping but im afraid of becoming addicted to it, want to start weaning off and try clonidine... On day 4 will this be dangerous ## To answer your first question, I did find that there are (moderately unsafe) interactions between Clonidine and Gabapentin (so it wouldn't be wise to take a full dose of each one together). Information that I've gathered on this states the following: "MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially exc...

My grandson is 12 and he was given 0.2 mg of clonidine twice by accident. Will he be ok or should i be worried? What is it for? ## Hello, Kim! How is he doing? Did he experience any problems? In most healthy individuals, this occurring just once would not be a problem, unless they are allergic to the given medication, but the NIH warns that they may experience more severe side effects than usual, which may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and insomnia.

Omg I'm f***n miserable! I didn't think I would have withdrawals this bad after only a month and a half of taking thus drug everyday. It's literally comparable to a milder xanax withdrawal. Yes, I did abuse it. I would take 3 0.1 mgs 2-3 times a day. Tolerance goes up extra quick with this drug. I have none left and I'm on my 3rd day of feeling like s***. I'm on a hundred and 30 milligrams of methadone every day, and it's not even taking care of me in the morning times because of how s***ty I feel. Woah good lord I f***d up royally lol my tolerance for things is always extra high because of how long I've done drugs. I refuse to tell my clinic and I just need some help because I can't find any info about how long it stays in the body when you stop it cold ...

Hi I am wondering how long it will take me to get over the major withdrawals from the Clonidine. I have been taking it since my nervous beak down. I have been begging for my Doctor to wean me off of it within the 1st few weeks after starting it. It says on the paperwork that I can't just stop. I used to be on .18 mgs, then I made it less which is .8 total per day. Now the Doc says I will NOT ever be taken off of it. This Clonidine makes me feel like total crap & I want to be off of it 100% as I will be helping victims and their family members get all the right answers, which they deserve. I am NOT as depressed as I was & the only reason why, is because I know I am doing the right thing to help with my heart. My grandpa passed Feb 1999, grandma March 7th 1999 from a broken he...

White round pill ## U135 Clonidine – Started taking this medication about a year ago for Anxiety and PTSD. After trying numerous medications for the past 25 years for anxiety and depression nothing had helped but made my situation worse until I started taking Clonidine 0.1 MG TAB ACT. Things that seemed impossible for me to do such as go outside my home had become something I was able to do because of this medication. When I received a new Clonidine refill at WalMart I noticed that the pill looked different that what I was taking before. Instead of the small round pink pill I had been taking the pill I had just received was ten times larger, oval and white. I immediately googled the pill number U135 to make sure that the medication was correct which it was, so I took the pill. The...

My father died by stroke & my mother in law also died by stroke. I want to know is there any liquid/medicine/tablets in the indian market that have been known to cause uncontrollable blood pressure, or are responsible for stroke? I am researching the reason for their death. Please help me... thank you ## I'm so sorry to read your story. I am 38 years old and had 3 massive strokes in December 2016! My strokes were a result of being over medicated with blood pressure medicine! I was taking clonidine .2 mg. You would think BP meds would keep a person's BP lower but mine caused massive strokes! Any BP med can do that! They switched me to lisunopril 10 MG and 2 weeks later I had a 4th stroke... medicine can and does cause strokes!

hello, i am on 100mcg's of clonidine twice a day (morning and night) for anxiety and have been having a really hard time with the induced drowsiness. i was wondering if anyone else experienced this and how long it takes your body to get used to it to the point that i'm not falling asleep in the middle of the day. thank you ## How long have you been taking it? According to the FDA side effects are usually transient and tend to go away after about 4 to 5 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and sedation. Are you on any other medications? How are you feeling, now? Has there been any change?
