Assuming the recommended dosage of Sandoz chlolestyramine powder is once a day, when is the best time to take it? At bedtime? An hour after breakfast? An hour after an evening dinner meal? It is my understanding the powder should not be taken too soon after a meal and/or before a meal.

See a doctor. This is a cholesterol reducing drug and they can wreck havoc on your liver enzymes. Liver disease can manifest with itching.
Take it in the morning before you've eaten anything if you take it for bile diarrhea.
I've taken cholestyramine for a long time and everything was ok until a few weeks ago when I started itching and it looks to me like an allergic reaction, could that be true?
Re: Shirley (# 7)
Thank you. I waited an hour today and it was better. Think I'll try two hours tomorrow.
Re: D Mama (# 6)
I usually wait an hour or so. In fact I take it about 9 and skip breakfast. That works best for me. It takes about two weeks for full effects and only the regular works for me.
How long before eating should I take this? The prescribing stuff just says before or with a meal. I tried 30 minutes before yesterday, as suggested by pharmacy, but I was nauseated and in pain the rest of the day.
Works best before you've eaten anything, otherwise you may still get an upset stomach. You should take any other meds one hour before taking Cholestryamine or 4 hours after. Make sure the product does not expire for at least a year. I find the light version does not work that well.
If for bile / diarrhea, take it in the morning before eating. Wait a while before eating. That's what works for me. As I've noted on this site, the lite doesn't work as well for me. I now have the regular version from Canada and it's working really well.
I take mine in morning then after each bowel movement (diarrhea) I take two citrucel I would not be able to leave my house without it
Take this medication before a meal and/or at bedtime, and try to take any other medications at least 1 hour before or 4 hours after you take cholestyramine because cholestyramine can interfere with their absorption.
Direct from Medline Plus online.
From what I've found, it's just said that it should be taken before meals, but it doesn't list any one in particular for this dosing, such as before breakfast or dinner.

Have you consulted your doctor? They may have a better idea of when it would be best for you to take it.
The most common side effect associated with it is constipation.
